Chesapeake Bay Watershed Exploration CAMP

Each year the District teams up with Buckingham and Cumberland Virginia Cooperative Extension to provide Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEE) to all 6th Graders in each county.

Part of the MWEE is a reflective essay.  Reflective essays from students in each county are selected and the authors received a full scholarship to our Chesapeake Bay Watershed Exploration Camp.  Camp is usually held the last Tuesday in May and lasts for 3 days.  It includes:

  • A field trip with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to explore marshlands, board a 40-foot boat and trawl for fish, pull up crab and eel pots and perform water quality monitoring

  • A field trip to Virginia Aquarium and Science Museum

  • An afternoon at Little Island State Park to play on the beach and explore the Atlantic Ocean

  •  A canoe trip on the Lower James River
