EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL

In accordance with the Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control Law, Regulations, and Certification Regulations, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) implements the State Erosion and Sediment Control Program (effective July 1, 2013) to help prevent the destruction of natural resources caused by soil erosion, sedimentation and non-agricultural runoff from regulated land-disturbing activities.

Erosion caused by excessive water runoff is one of the most severe types of erosion in developing areas.

E&SC regulations specify the minimum standards that must be followed on all regulated activities.  Local and State governments are responsible for administering Erosion and Sediment Control Programs and regulating most private projects involving a land-disturbing activity, while DEQ oversees State and Federal activities.

Peter Francisco SWCD provides assistance to the localities of Buckingham and Cumberland with the Erosion and Sediment Control Program by performing E&SC plan review.  District staff is also available to assist county staff when needed, with on-site inspections and complaints, and to assist engineers and developers with the planning process.

To download a copy of the District's checklist of the necessary components of all erosion & sediment control plans please click the link below.  This list must be completed and signed by the plan preparer and must accompany all erosion & sediment plans submitted to the Peter Francisco SWCD for review.
